Today did not go according to plan
Jul. 14th, 2023 08:14 pmSo. Today.
Got up, went to Target, got groceries, came home and put them away. Check.
Loaded my scooter into the Rondo, drove the Rondo to the service station, dropped the car off for a new headlight and an oil change. Check.
Rode my scooter to the bank, then played Pokemon Go on the way home, check.
As I pulled up to my house on my scooter, the service station called. The car's sub-frame was rusted through next to the control arm. It's not safe to drive.
Well, crap.
After some research and my spouse playing immense phone tag with the dealer, we opted to repair the Rondo. However we looked at it, it was still cheaper to repair than to get a new used car. So, the parts are on order and will get here in about a week.
Talk to housemate, arrange to borrow his car for a week. This was after calls to both our insurance agents to make sure we were covered and there was nothing weird about lending the car to someone you live with who is not named on your insurance.
So we drove the C-Max out on errands.
At Menards we found the patio furniture we had hoped for. Mid-July means the selection is limited but most of it is on sale. This was good.
Got french fries from McDonalds, yum.
Went to Home Depot for the bags of sand that are the right mix of grain sizes for the quail.
The car, it is now full. FULL. It is full. We have jammed far more into it than it normally copes with, but we are fine. We see a sign for a garage sale, and opt to stop by in case they have small pictures frames.
Reader, they did not have small picture frames.
What the garage sale DID have was an incredibly comfortable overstuffed leather armchair and ottoman.
We drove to the service station to pick up the Rondo. We were told we could drive is gingerly, delicately, around the neighborhood as long as we didn't go on the highway and didn't hit any bumps.
We took both cars back to the garage sale.
We tried -- both of us and both of the adults at the garage sale -- to fit the armchair into the Rondo. Absolutely no way.
We call our housemate. After much conversation, he WALKS (because we have his car) to the U-Haul place near our house, rents a van, and drives it to the garage sale. My spouse and the Rondo stay there and wait. I drive the C-Max home.
Our son is home from work, yay! He is ... showering, after a ten-hour shift of yardwork, and is unable to help unload the car.
I unload the C-Max. I haul each 50-pound bag of sand into the garage. I haul the 65-pound box of patio furniture into the garage. I unpack the furniture. I set it up on the patio. I break down all the packaging and put it into the garbage and recycling.
I walk into the house.
The rented van and the Rondo pull up.
Spouse gets all of the dogs out of the way and into the yard.
Housemate and I unload the chair and ottoman out of the van and into the house.
Housemate returns van and walks home.
Spouse attaches the feet to the furniture and also puts felt on the bottoms so as not to scratch out 100+ year old original wood floor.
Spouse and I shove the furniture around until the chair and ottoman are in the right place.
Everyone appreciates everything for a while, yay. Much gratitude is expressed to housemate.
Son and I, who are going to the gun range to shoot trap for the first time in YEARS, get the guns out of the safe, bring up the cases, and get the cleaning gear. We take everything into the workshop outside and clean the guns, then pack them into their cases for the morning.
We order pizza.
Spouse and I sit on the couch watching tv and eating pizza.
Everyone gets ready for bed.
My goodness, it has been a very long day.
