The next necessary small thing

I want this to be meaningful.
I am coming to realize that, no, I am not that deep or wise or knowledgeable.
I just came back from Wiscon, and I ache to know what things to say that will inspire people the way the folks I listened to there did I spoke with Rivers Solomon and Ryka Aoki, and I do not have the means to convey to you how meaningful I found their words.
Both of them spoke of the importance of small joys. No calls for revolution, no encouragement of uprising, no. The crucial, live-givng importance of small joys.
When I got back from the con, my garden had been growing unchecked for five days.
For a couple hours each day I have tended to my yard. Watering, because it hasn't rained in days. Cutting back everything that has grown too exuberantly and well. The Virginia Creeper needed to be cut off of the shrubs it was smothering. The raspberries are wonderful, but not inside the vegetable garden or in the paths. The elderberry shrubs are lush and tall, but need to not infringe on my patio chair.
I moved the cages protecting things from the rabbits. I do not know why the rabbits keep eating my plants instead of the Creeping Charlie, but there you have it.
I weeded, speaking of Creeping Charlie, I weeded in the onion beds, pulling clovers and other such things away from my onions. I trimmed the tomato plant, I adjusted the broccoli inside thair mesh cages.
The lettuces are doing well, as are the vegetables in pots. We already have radishes, and green onions. It's going to be an off year for the apple tree and most of the raspberry canes. A rebuilding year. Next year there will be fruit.
All of this is needful. I trim the plants away from the sidewalk so that people can get through with strollers, with mobility devices, with dogs. I pull weeds out of the pots so that plants may grow. I do not trap or kill the rabbits, I just protect the plants that are important to me.
A Downy Woodpeckers couple are nesting in a snag in our yard. It is small, and it is important.
