Today I took an archery lesson

I went with one of my adult-kids. The class was three hours long. We both had a fantastic time!

At the end of class I purchased a very basic intro-level recurve bow and the bare essentials for practicing. There is an outdoor range near my house, within mobility-scootering range. I intend to go practice some archery.

It's a physical activity that I don't need to be able to STAND to do!

Oh, that's very cool. I took archery in college, and while I never got very good (no depth perception), I loved all the historic and romantic resonances, and it was nice to feel competent about stringing and unstringing the bow, and letting the arrow fly without smacking oneself in the face.

I absolutely LOVE weightlifting, and I deeply miss being able to do it. But the combination of strength and precision in archery appeals to me. Also, one can learn to do it seated!

I had an archery class way back when I was a kid and I loved it. I thought about getting back into it during the pandemic but like a lot of things, I didn't get around to it. Where is the archery range near your house and where did you get your bow and equipment?

It's in the Lauderdale city park, on the west side of the UofMN golf course. I took the three-hour Intro to Archery class at Average Joe's Archery in Coon Rapids. I quite liked the instructors (both women, one a hunter and the other a nationally-ranked target competitor.) The class was a huge swath of the sorts of people in the Twin Cities, different ages, genders, and ethnic/cultural backgrounds. At least four languages were being spoken by the students. It cost $30 to take the class with rented equipment and I *recommend* it to you. I bought my gear there, a $150 starter set.

That sounds like so much fun!
