interstitial time

I recently finished knitting the first and only sweater I intend to knit. My spouse says she will cherish it, since she's not getting another one!

I really enjoy the resetting of my knitting bags. After I finish something, I take the project bag back to where I keep my things, to the dressers and bins and boxes. I sort all the tools in the bag, I take apart the Addi interchangeable circs, I tuck each piece into its special slot.

I like looking at the yarn in the drawers, at the possibilities. I take out my box of knitting patterns and go through the folders. Do I want to try this glove pattern? Do the dogs need more sweaters? What yarn was I meaning to use for something and what would it be good for?

I love this moment of process and possibility, the hope and plan, I love the moment of vision. I pack a new project bag, with the yarn, the specific needles, the tapestry needle, the pattern and pen, and bring it out to sit next to my chair.

I love this process.

Yes!

Putting away the beads at the end of a project thrills me in the same way.

Congratulations on the unicorn sweater!

It's different in many ways because some of the components are perishable, but I go through a similar process with what's in the fridge or on sale at the grocery store, and my folders of recipes. I don't have so much of the restoration of tools to their spots, but I do hand wash some things, including some knives. I don't do all the cleanup, though. Still, it sounds very familiar, and it is very soothing.

I really like the way you wrote about your experience. Makes me want to go look at my supplies! ha. I perhaps have similar feelings to yours. I like to be organized, I like to make things, I especially enjoy the period of time when I am deciding what to make, choosing colors, etc. Your post is like a little storybook, and in my mind I see the illustrations.
