Gearing up for the change

I am clearly going to be leaving Twitter soon.

Probably all social media, to be honest.

But I like keeping in touch with my friends.

So, to that end --

If you have a newsletter, paid or free, let me know. If you have a Discord or Slack community you think I would enjoy being a part of, let me know.

I think it's crucial that we continue to build and maintain relationships over long distances, all of us, all people. But I am increasingly convinced that it can't be done on Twitter and Facebook.

Let me know where you are. I can sense the end of my time on social media approaching --

Ook. I am so dependent on twitter for my social priopreception that I have a hard, hard time thinking of how I'd keep up without it. Mastodon hasn't been what I hoped. The LJ/DW style of shared-blogposts has faded so far. It's back to pre-Internet BBS style interaction with multiple, closed, small-userbase systems. And I just don't know how to find them.

The one I do know is Story Hospital's slack, which is all about writing.

I just came back here on DW after a hiatus. Emma and I have a slack with a few friends. Twitter is too overwhelming for constant use. I almost never look at FB.

Yeah, after the harassment I just had for being Jewish on twitter I'm feeling pretty frustrated with social media in general but right now it feels like the only real way to keep in contact with everyone, especially since other than my wife everyone I really care about is at least 3-4 hours away. I wish I understood discord or slack better. Sadly other than twitter/facebook, the only real place I am is here.

I do miss you, and I wish there was a better way to keep in touch

That absolutely sucks that you're feeling forced out of social media. I hope you find new and better outlets, and that DW is one of them.
